God's Promises

While I don’t know precisely where I am headed, I am at peace with the road I am on. I can see God in the distance, leading the way while I am a comfortable distance behind, leisurely making my way to Him. At this moment, I no longer feel this need to push past God to see where He is taking me.

Have you ever had the opportunity to look back into your past to really appreciate where life has taken you since? My husband sent me a picture of my mom and 3 sisters from 10 years and said, “The Fearless 5”. The picture was taken in 2008 at my graduation from the University of Florida, ten years before we founded The Fearless 5. I giggled when I saw the photo because well, for one, my sister Candice has bangs, but mostly because in one old photograph I could see God’s promise for a future full of purpose and passion. It was easy to feel excited with possibility, yet completely overwhelmed for the exact same reason.

While I don’t know precisely where I am headed, I am at peace with the road I am on. I can see God in the distance, leading the way while I am a comfortable distance behind, leisurely making my way to Him. At this moment, I no longer feel this need to push past God to see where He is taking me.

I want to encourage those of who are reading this that are thinking, ‘I’ve never been ever to feel God leading me’ to hang in there; this feeling is relatively new for me, too. If you are interested in feeling God’s presence, here are 3 actionable steps that helped me!

“I could see God’s promise for a future full of purpose and passion.”

1. Read God’s Word consistently

On January 1, 2018, I committed to reading the Bible through on the She Reads Truth App. While I prefer to have my Bible in my hand, it felt overwhelming for me to see and feel my commitment lingering on page after page. The App helped me view the journey as a daily commitment, rather than a yearly commitment, which felt much more manageable! I loved how the app organized the reading for me, mixing Old and New Testament reading so it felt fresh daily, while still having a sense of continuity. Another thing that helped me persist with the reading is I always had it with me! The Bible was so available that it became my go-to app. I found myself on social media less and reading God’s word more!

2. Create opportunities to discuss your faith

In 2018, we started The Fearless 5. This venture has given me a reason to share God with others regularly. I know that God is reason enough to share the Good News, but I struggled with fitting God into my daily conversations with others. While I still have missed opportunities, I find myself talking about God through my journey with The Fearless 5.

I am not suggesting you need to start a nonprofit to share God with us, but I do believe creating opportunity in your schedule to talk about your faith. The more opportunities you create, the more natural talking about your faith will be. The words won’t feel forced, but more fluid.

Sign up for a small group, go to lunch with women of the faith, join a Facebook group of like-minded women, read the Bible inside your home, do a daily devotional with your kids, sign up for a Bible Journaling class at your local craft store. If you’re in St. Pete, Florida, Whimsodoodle is a great resource!

3. Listen When God Speaks

Unfortunately, it is not quite as obvious when God speaks to us nowadays. In the Bible, God showed up as a burning bush. If I saw a burning bush now, I’d probably conclude someone didn’t put out their cigarette and search the horizon for a fire truck on the way. My experience with God speaking to me is more like a whisper of intuition, an idea too big or great to pursue on your own, a nagging feeling inside, an inkling to do something without obvious rhyme or reason.
