Meet the Youngest Member of The Fearless Five
Allie Scruggs
Who is Allie in a nutshell?
Well, I am Allie and I am the baby girl of the family. I have two degrees in criminal justice and have spent the last five years in law enforcement. I have two children, eight and two, that have given me so much joy and life. My husband and I have been together for eight years and we have had some wonderful times and some trying times, but love continues to win. Although I work in a very hands-on profession, I am still very into getting my hair and nails done. I guess that part comes from having so many sisters in my family.
Where do you stand with Christ as of right now and where do you see your relationship with Him headed?
I would say of all of us, my relationship with Christ has been a little bit rockier than the others. I have experienced 2 ectopic pregnancies, multiple emergency surgeries at crucial periods of my life. These situations have caused me to question God and my relationship, but I have always ended up reconnecting with him. I think as anything we are constantly working on being better, whether it is our health, our worldly relationships, or in our careers. My relationship with God is no different. I always am working on connecting with Him and finding the best way for me to reach out with him. It is no different than some people preferring Pilates over Cross-fit. You have to find what works for you. I am thankful for my support group because they constantly offer different avenues for me to try and expand my relationship with Christ without being overbearing. I am hoping that during this conference, you will find that we can be that same type of support to you all. To help you get creative with your connection to God and your faith and when things are hard, you have us to lean on.
Describe what makes you fearless?
This is probably what is running through your mind when you hear about the Fearless Five. What could possibly make them fearless? I can only speak on my behalf but for me it is simple. It is God. I have noticed that when I do not seek him I tend to become fearful of the unknown. Working in law enforcement has really opened up my eyes to my relationship with Christ. When I was working in the Detention Facility and a situation would occur, I would take off into immediate action, it became second nature. I would rely on my training, my experience, and my back-up to all fall into place to save me. The problem was I noticed that I had these same types of experiences and training with Christ, such as the Bible, bible study, church, even daily devotions, but never applied them to my daily life or even my major life Crisis. I would run and panic instead of trusting what the bible says. I would be fearful even though from my past trials and experiences God carried me through. I noticed that when I panicked everything fell apart. God has been my back up all along, but I forgot to use him and apply his love to my day to day events. Now that I understand I need him when things are in disarray, I can call upon him and not be fearful, but be fearless.
What is one of your favorite Childhood memories?
My favorite childhood memory is almost any Christmas time as a child. My parents always made such a big deal of this holiday. As Christmas gets near, I always get flooded memories of family trips taken at this time of year and the decorations. My dad always had a display of Christmas houses that he would set up and put on display near our kitchen. My parents always put lights up and had Christmas carols going. It truly brings me back to a sense of family around this time of year.
What makes your bond with your sisters unique?
I think coming from such a large family that was blended from an early age, most people would think that we are all pretty similar. In fact, it truly is the opposite. We all have a shared love for family and being supportive of one another, but we are all totally different. I have a sister who isn’t going to sugar coat the facts, another who is going to play the devil’s advocate, and one who is going to ask me how I feel on the situation? I mean I wouldn’t have it any other way if you ask me.
